Solar-Draft

Everything your roof can do for you.

From a first survey to looking after your system for years. Every install ends with testing and your MCS certificate, the paperwork you need to get paid for power you export.

All-black solar panels on the slate roof of a whitewashed cottage

Solar panels

Panels sized to your roof and how you use power.

We look at your roof, any shading and a year of your bills before we suggest a system. You get a panel layout and a realistic yearly generation estimate, not a best-case guess.

What is included

  • Roof, shading and fuse board survey
  • Panel layout and generation estimate
  • Scaffold, install and testing
  • MCS certificate for export payments

Typical time: Usually 1 to 2 days on site

Home battery and hybrid inverter on a utility room wall, with isolator switches and tidy trunking

Battery storage

Keep daytime sunshine for the evening.

A home battery stores what your panels make during the day so you use it at teatime instead of exporting it cheaply. We fit batteries in garages, utility rooms or outside, not in lofts or on escape routes, in line with current fire safety guidance.

What is included

  • Battery sized to your evening use
  • Hybrid inverter where needed
  • Fire-safe location agreed with you
  • App set up on your phone

Typical time: Half a day to a day

Add a battery to existing panels

Already have panels? Make more of them.

Most systems from the last ten years can take a battery. We check your inverter and wiring first and tell you straight if it is worth doing.

What is included

  • Check of your existing system
  • Honest advice on whether it pays
  • AC or DC coupled battery
  • Updated paperwork

Typical time: Half a day for most homes

Wall charger on a rendered house wall, plugged into a green car on a gravel drive

04 / 06

EV chargers

Charge the car from your own roof.

A solar-aware charger can top up your car with spare generation before anything goes to the grid. We fit it neatly and handle the network operator paperwork.

What is included

  • Supply and load check
  • Solar-aware smart charger
  • Dedicated circuit and protection
  • Network operator notification

Typical time: Half a day

Black mesh clipped round the gap under a solar array on a slate roof

05 / 06

Bird-proofing

Stop pigeons nesting under your panels.

The gap under panels is a warm shelter for pigeons, and the mess and noise build up fast. Clip-on mesh closes the gap without drilling into your panels or roof.

What is included

  • Clean out of any nesting
  • Clip-on mesh round the array
  • No drilling into panels
  • Before and after photos

Typical time: 2 to 4 hours

System health checks

Is your system making what it should?

If your generation has dropped, or your inverter shows a fault, we test the system, find the cause and fix it. We look after systems we did not install too.

What is included

  • Inverter and panel testing
  • Check of isolators and cabling
  • Generation compared to expected
  • Clear report with any fixes

Typical time: 1 to 2 hours

Two installers in harnesses fitting rails on a slate roof, with scaffold and guard rails along the edge

From first visit to switch on

The same six steps for every home, so you always know what happens next.

  1. Step 1

    Survey

We check your roof, shading, fuse board and a year of bills.

  2. Step 2

    Design and quote

A panel layout, a realistic generation estimate and a fixed quote.

  3. Step 3

    Network paperwork

Your network operator runs the local cables. Smaller systems are fitted first and they are told afterwards; bigger ones need their approval before we start. We handle both.

  4. Step 4

    Scaffold up

Safe access goes up the day before, with edge protection.

  5. Step 5

    Install day

Rails, panels, inverter and battery fitted, usually in 1 to 2 days.

  6. Step 6

    Switch on

Everything tested, the app set up, and your MCS certificate handed over.

Straight answers

The questions we hear most on a first visit.

Do solar panels work in Scotland?
Yes. Panels make power from daylight, not heat. You will generate a lot less in December than in June, which is why we base every estimate on your roof and location.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not for panels on a house roof, but listed buildings and conservation areas are different. We check before we quote.
What happens in a power cut?
Standard systems switch off for safety when the grid goes down. Some batteries can keep chosen circuits running, and we will tell you if that is possible for you.
Can I get paid for what I export?
Energy suppliers pay for exported power through the Smart Export Guarantee. You will need the MCS certificate we give you at switch on.
Do I need permission from the network operator?
It depends on the inverter, the box that turns panel power into household power. If yours is rated up to 3.68 kilowatts, which covers most homes (eight panels make about 3.4 kilowatts at their peak), we fit first and tell the operator within 28 days (a G98 notification). If it is bigger, or panels and a battery add up to more, we need the operator's approval before we start (a G99 application), which can take a few weeks. We do the forms either way.
Where does the battery go?
Usually a garage, utility room or an outside wall. Current fire safety guidance keeps home batteries out of lofts, bedrooms and escape routes such as hallways and stairs, so we agree a spot with you on the survey.
